Fabio Di Giannantonio anticipates returning to contention this weekend following ‘challenges’ that affected his Qatar MotoGP performance.
Having claimed victory at the Qatar MotoGP last season, Fabio Di Giannantonio couldn’t repeat that feat earlier this month, settling for seventh place.
Part of the reason was Di Giannantonio not being at full fitness after a heavy fall during the sprint race. Nevertheless, the Italian acknowledged that ‘challenges’ affected his grand prix.
“I believe our potential in Qatar was to be up there fighting at the front, but we encountered some issues over the weekend that made it challenging,” stated Di Giannantonio. “Through the team’s analysis, we gained insight into why we weren’t able to secure top finishes.
“Nevertheless, I’m pleased because finishing in seventh place despite these challenges indicates that we are in a good position, so to speak.
“I ended last year on a high note and started this year in a positive way as well. Ultimately, the speed is there.
“We just need to fine-tune some aspects. I don’t have any specific expectations; I simply want to be out on the bike.”
Currently under contract with the Pertamina Enduro VR46 team on a one-year deal, Di Giannantonio was asked if discussions about his future have commenced, despite there being only one race in the season so far.
“For myself, no,” began Di Giannantonio. “My manager is in discussions with various parties as he does every year, because in this industry, things can change rapidly.”
“I prefer to concentrate on Portimao, which marks only the second race of the year.
“I want to be fully focused on my tasks without worrying about or contemplating my future.”
Though it’s still early in the season, Di Giannantonio has integrated seamlessly into the VR46 team, attributing it to the ‘support’ they offer to enable their riders’ success.
Di Gi Giannantonio elaborated, “The VR46 structure is impressive. Every day, they manage to impress me even more.
“The team’s entire focus is on providing everything to the rider and aiding them to excel.
“It’s not merely a business-oriented company; it’s a team dedicated to ensuring the rider has everything needed to win.
“This gives me an extra boost and the confidence to push myself, keeping me focused at all times.”
