“Lin Jarvis has officially announced his departure from the role of Yamaha MotoGP team boss after the conclusion of the 2024 season.”

“After overseeing Yamaha’s racing project for the past 26 years, Lin Jarvis has revealed plans to step down following the conclusion of the current MotoGP season.

“This announcement comes just one week after Yamaha secured the extension of their star rider, Fabio Quartararo, until the end of 2026.”

“This will be my final season at Yamaha, as I will be stepping down at the end of the year,” Jarvis informed Motorsport.com during the Americas Grand Prix at COTA. “I will decide later on what my future endeavors will entail, where I will direct my focus.”

“I initiated the factory team back in 1999, and it has been an unusually lengthy tenure. Now, at 66 years old, I’m beginning to feel the weariness of constant travel.

“Over the span of 26 years, it’s quite remarkable for a single individual to lead a factory project for such an extended period.

“The time has arrived for a new chapter.

“It feels like the right moment to make this transition. We need to be able to conclude my chapter and embark on the next, seamlessly. This is the best path forward for both parties.

“We have already identified the individual who is likely to succeed me, although it has not yet been officially announced.”

“However, it will be an individual from within the Yamaha group who will assume my position in January of next year.”

Jarvis has overseen some of Yamaha’s most remarkable championship-winning seasons, including all of Valentino Rossi’s title triumphs with the Japanese brand.

While Jarvis’ departure leaves significant shoes to be filled, Yamaha’s project seems to be in capable hands following the signing of several key technicians, including the new Technical Director Max Bartolini, previously of Ducati.

Addressing his future ahead of the 2024 season, Jarvis stated, “This year marks my 25th year as managing director and team principal of the factory team. It’s been a significant journey, but I’m not getting any younger. The hair is grayer, and there’s less and less of it! So, at some point in the future, there will be a change. We need to usher in the new generation.

“As a company or corporation, it’s a natural progression. You must prepare for transitions and ensure the continuity of the business for the future. I will certainly fulfill my role for the entire season, health permitting.

“Regarding the future, we’ll see. We are currently in the process of selection, determining the management that will guide us into the next era.”

He further explained, “The individual will be from within the Yamaha Motor Group. I can confirm this. We are not seeking external candidates.

“I believe the nationality of the person is not the crucial factor. What matters is their mindset, mentality, and experience.

“Whether European or non-European, within the group, we require someone with significant experience. Most individuals within the group who possess the necessary experience for the role would likely be European.”

We absolutely loved Lin Jarvis’s era in MotoGP , those who follow the sport from more than a decade knows how beautifully he managed things at Yamaha , be it conflict between Valentino Rossi & Jorge Lorenzo or making Yamaha a motorcycle that anybody can ride & win.

Thank you Lin Jarvis
