Pedro Acosta expresses his “excitement” as he gears up for his debut MotoGP season at the Qatar Grand Prix.

Following an impressive pre-season, Pedro Acosta is set to make his official MotoGP debut this weekend at Lusail.

Acosta’s transition has been remarkably smooth, and although testing doesn’t always paint the full picture, the reigning Moto2 world champion has consistently secured spots within the top ten throughout the pre-season.

“I am thrilled to embark on a season that holds great significance for me,” expressed Acosta ahead of this weekend’s season-opener.

“This is my first year in MotoGP class with a team I have bonded with from the get-go. The Qatar test has been immensely valuable in preparing us for the season’s beginning, instilling us with a positive outlook.

Our aim is to continue adjusting and steadily comprehend the nuances of the bike.

Let’s do this, let’s kickstart the season!” The excitement surrounding Acosta has been tangible since he first took to the GASGAS KTM machine at the end of the previous season.

With KTM poised for another highly competitive season in 2024, Acosta could emerge as a significant contender in the battle for top-five finishes as early as the first round.

On the opposite end of the pit, Augusto Fernandez passes on the mantle of lone rookie to Acosta, gearing up for his second season in the premier class.

Looking ahead to Friday’s opening practice, Fernandez shared, “After a long winter and completing all the pre-season testing, I am extremely happy to finally be heading into our first race week of the year, returning to ‘real’ racing!

“The winter tests didn’t unfold as smoothly as we had hoped, and I faced some challenges.

“However, I have confidence in all the groundwork we’ve laid, we’ve grasped the nuances of the new bike, and we’re aware of the areas where we need to improve to regain competitiveness.

“Our aim for this first round is to recapture the same feeling we had towards the end of 2023. Hopefully, we can reach a similar level and progress from there.”
