“Andrea Iannone showcased top form on the second day of WorldSBK testing in Catalunya, securing the fourth fastest time.”

“After a subdued first day of testing, Andrea Iannone displayed reminiscent form from the WorldSBK season opener in Phillip Island, consistently running within the top five throughout the day.

Making a triumphant comeback after a four-year ban, Iannone finished four tenths behind Nicolo Bulega’s leading time.”

“Bulega narrowly claimed the lead over Toprak Razgatlioglu with a new unofficial lap record, while Iannone trailed just behind Danilo Petrucci, who secured P3 in Race 2 at Phillip Island.

Reflecting on the test, Iannone stated: ‘The objective remains consistent; I’m a newcomer here and it’s just the beginning. Every day I gather more knowledge about tyres, setup, electronics… Each test and every day is a step forward for me, considering I started from a far-off point.

“Everyone else here has been riding continuously for 20 years; I was out for four years, and the recovery isn’t simple. Nonetheless, I’m content. We possess significant potential, but the race is where it truly counts. Generally, I struggle more during tests than in races, but time will tell.’

Also present on the track for Ducati was their MotoGP test rider, Michele Pirro, who diligently tested ‘various solutions’ for factory riders Bulega and Alvaro Bautista.”

“Also displaying impressive speed on the second day, Pirro expressed his desire to have more opportunities with the Panigale V4 R, even considering racing as a wildcard since he might not have the chance to do so in MotoGP this season.

Pirro stated: ‘It’s been quite a while since I last competed in WorldSBK, about five years! It left a good impression, especially since I had the chance to ride the Panigale V4 R with Pirelli tires.

“I gathered data to assist Alvaro and the team, as well as to contribute to the bike’s development for the future. The competition from other manufacturers is fierce, and the level is incredibly high.

“I experimented with various setups for Alvaro’s weight, engine components, and overall bike balance. I wasn’t too far off from the quickest riders, so I’m pleased with my first Superbike test after this break.

“I hope to continue with Superbike, maybe another test, possibly at Misano. I’m considering a return for some races, but we’ll have to see!

“I had a great time, and we’ll discuss it with Ducati! I enjoyed working with the other riders too. It might not be feasible for me to do a MotoGP wildcard this year, so I’m looking forward to possibly joining WorldSBK for one or two events.

“I see Nicolo performing excellently; he’s riding impressively, a talented and fast rider. It’s remarkable, not just him but all the riders, but Nicolo stands out as a great talent and rider.'”
