Toprak Razgatlioglu affirms that his choice to join BMW is validating itself following the recent outcomes in Catalunya.

Throughout the weekend, Toprak Razgatlioglu’s remarkable talent was on full display once again, showcasing his prowess on the track. Simultaneously, it is evident that BMW has made significant strides with their WorldSBK project.

Razgatlioglu clinched victory in two races at what is arguably considered BMW’s most challenging circuit on the calendar, doing so in spectacular fashion.

In the first race, Toprak Razgatlioglu showcased exceptional tire management as he closed the gap on race leader Nicolo Bulega, executing a crucial overtake on the final lap.

The Superpole Race, which made headlines, witnessed Razgatlioglu deliver one of the most remarkable overtakes in WorldSBK history at the last corner.

While his Superpole Race heroics rightly garnered attention, the victory in Race 1 was equally impressive, illustrating why Razgatlioglu could be a title contender in his debut season with BMW.

After joining the German brand amidst their past challenges, much speculation surrounded Razgatlioglu’s decision. However, the Turkish star believes recent results are proving him right.

“My strategy was to ride smoothly, and when Bulega overtook me, I planned to follow him for a few laps to gauge tire grip,” explained Razgatlioglu.

“I noticed Nicolo pushing, so I pushed harder but then thought, ‘Okay, I should ease off as a podium finish is solid,’ knowing Ducati’s strength here and their consistent performance in the final laps.”

“I had never secured a win here before, not even with BMW, so this feels like a dream come true for me. Andrea Iannone managed to pass me, but after two laps, he fell back, and I quickly took the lead again.

“I was riding at my own pace, consistently hitting 1’42s, and in the last five or six laps, Bulega’s performance started to decline. That’s when I pushed even harder because I was determined to win!

“With just two laps to go, I had a moment at Turn 10 where I lost the front! However, I regained the lead on the final lap at Turn 5, and I couldn’t help but smile!

“As I crossed the finish line and saw the checkered flag, I’ve always maintained that we’re close, not quite at 100%, but now everyone can see the true potential of the BMW.

“Previously, there were some negative remarks, but now, after winning in our second weekend, everyone sees what the BMW is capable of.”
